2023 Late Harvest Viognier
This wine is for three women who left this earthly plane this year. Each extraordinary.
One taught me you are never too old to chase the dreams of your youth.
One lived at the center of women’s empowerment before it had a name.
One reminded us to never leave a loved one without saying I love you.
Their lessons are woven into this wine. A rare being. A late harvest Viognier. Proof that unicorns exist. I have spent time with them.
2023 was a vintage that gave winemakers an unusual amount of time to think. When we would normally be full tilt in the cellar, we were waiting. The season unfolded slowly and generously, letting us choose pick dates purely on flavor. A gift.
In Anderson Valley, Ashley found a small vineyard of Chardonnay and Viognier. She considered blending them or letting each stand alone. In the quiet liminal space of the 2023 harvest she chose two paths. The Chardonnay became Read Holland’s first Blanc de Blanc, now aging in bottle. The Viognier ripened into something luminous, perfect for a late harvest wine.
A small, singular wine in honor of three remarkable women. Edna, Libby, and Cheryl emulated in the unicorn constellation on the back label.
Their magic continues.
The Viognier was harvested on October 31. Fermented at very cool temperatures in stainless steel to protect its expressive aromatics. Honey, apricot, candied citrus peel, orange blossom with an undercurrent of tropical notes. The palate is rich, viscous, lusciously sweet fruit, balanced by lively acidity, leading to a long, smooth finish with hints of ginger baking spice.
Pair with: pineapple upside down cake, olive oil cake, peach crumble, vanilla ice cream, blue cheese (like Roquefort), or dark chocolate.

100 grams of residual sugar at bottling.
